Letters

Here is the letter that you have been waiting for, along with a snapshot of moi.
I first heard of Clive Baldwin back in the seventies through THE JOLSON JOURNAL. It seams that I couldn't pick up a copy without coming across a story & plug about Mr Baldwin. No one sounded more like AL JOLSON than Clive Baldwin, I read. I was a fan of Norman Brooks [still am], & to me he was the living voice of AL JOLSON.

Finally, I could contain myself no longer & I purchased the vidéô, 'Stepping Out' from the Int'l AL JOLSON Society. Immediately, Norman Brooks became #2 & Clive Baldwin became #1. I have been a loyal fan ever since.

In 1993, I was living in Guelph, Ontario when I read an advertisement about Clive. He had a dinner engagement at a hôtel in Toronto, about sixty miles away. Naturally, I went. The show, needless to say, was suburb!!! After the show Clive went into the lobby where he sang requests [including mine] & signing autographs. Clive Baldwin had the AL JOLSON voice but with another added plus: he was a nicer man!

Recently I started lobbying for Clive to be put on the AL JOLSON Website in the Memorializers page. Through this effort I was put in touch with Lenore Baldwin & Clive. He phoned me while I was in Toronto one day & sang 'As Time Goes By' to me over the telephone.

I love Clive's voice because it sounds just like the voice of AL JOLSON but that is not why I like Clive. I like Clive because of the person behind the talent as well as the talent itself.

Take care,
G W H
